How to do Proper Romanian Deadlifts


The Romanian deadlift is commonly used by Olympic Weightlifters as we all know. This Romanian variation puts more emphasis on the hamstrings, glutes and back.

Instructions to do proper Romanian Deadlifts

  • Preparation for Romanian Deadlifts
  • Grasp barbell from rack or deadlift from floor with shoulder width to wide overhand grip. Stand with shoulder width or narrower stance.

  • Proper Execution of Romanian Deadlifts
  • Lower bar to top of feet by bending hips. Bend knees during descent and keep waist straight so back is parallel to floor at lowest position. Lift bar by extending at hips and knees until standing upright. Pull shoulders back slightly if rounded. Repeat.

  • Extra Tip for a proper execution of Romanian Deadlifts
  • Throughout lift keep arms and back straight. Wider grip allows for slightly fuller range of motion that is descent.
