Muscle Atrophy
Muscle atrophy as i`ve said earlier, appears when you disuse your muscles and it`s followed by loss of mass and strength. For example if you have a hand in a cast you force your muscles from the hand to limit their movement so the atrophy appears because the muscle is no longer needed for the daily routine of grabbing, eating, washing etc..

There are many diseases and conditions which cause atrophy of muscle mass except that lack of exercise, diseases like AIDS or cancer that are notable for the severe muscle atrophy seen in their process called cachexia.

Another disease that causes muscle mass atrophy is sarcopenia. This muscle atrophy disease is known through elders because as you age, you have a gradual decrease in the ability to maintain skeletal
muscle function and mass and that`s because the satellite cells which help to regenerate skeletal muscle fibers have a gradual failure, or a decrease in sensitivity of the critical secreted growth factors which are necessary to maintain muscle mass.

Treatment for Muscle Atrophy
Some of the treatments are common among us like exercising with progressive weight to rehabilitate your muscle mass and strength.
Other treatments for muscle atrophy includes the use of functional electrical stimulation to stimulate the muscles and it has seen some succes through paraplegic pacients, or amino acid therapy for regenerating damaged or atrophied muscle tissue.

Holly Van Remmen from the University of Texas Health Science Center (USA) is currently researching an experiment on mice modified to prevent them from having a protective antioxidant. As a result of the lacking antioxidant, the mice lose muscle mass and function at a much faster rate than normal mice.
Holly Van Remmen hopes to find alternative treatments for muscle atrophy and halt the process of sarcopenia.

After 5-6 more months of training i`ve started putting some muscles and i met a girl. We started talking and we hooked up.I don`t know how i let her do it, but she made me forget about my dream of bodybuilding and she was rather jealous and that fact made me lose many opportunities. With the time passing by i`ve noticed that i`ve been skipping meals because i stood with her everyday and didn`t have the time to eat. That little factor made me lose about 50% of what i`ve achieved in the gym, so money and health gone for nothing.
After the usual things that happened in our relationship, like:

often fights

her unusually strong jealousy

catching her cheating on me

I decided: “No More!” and i broke off with her.

And you know what?

Every bad thing has an opposite effect!

My ex-girlfriends sister had a boyfriend and he was a K1 fighter that enjoyed bodybuilding as much as i did.(let`s call him Jim)
Jim was older than me and he had the answers for everything. I was sad after my separation with my girlfriend but he took me “under his wing” and told me all kinds of bodybuilder secrets that he learned in years of bodybuilding. We were also gym partners and Jim really had a huge impact on me.
Ohh another thing that i forgot to say; I was the kind of guy that talked a lot especially during training yeah yeah, that guy that you hate in the gym that just comes to talk and Jim was a little bit harsh or severe with me but i understood the fact that he was trying to make me focus on building muscles, not on talking and jerking around.

So he disciplined me and was a good friend.

I admire Jim, he really knows what he wants from life and takes it with a full hand.
But one day i decided that i want to take steroids, i thought i could be more happy and feel better about me but i will tell you about those steroids in another part ( to be continued)

My passion for bodybuilding started really as a cliche if i can say, after i saw an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie ” The Terminator”.
When i saw the movie i was 14 years old and didn`t know anything about this world of bodybuilding and how to build muscles, i just thought that Arnold was born with those huge muscles.
After i saw it i went to my parents and told them: “I want those muscles” and they said something like: “Ooh no, they are so ugly and grotesque” but i knew the fact that Arnold`s body was like an grecian ideal with a statuesque presence and the perfect dimensions.

Three years later i finally got the chance to go at a gym and i loved it!

My first session involved training the tricep and bicep. I remember it like it was yesterday, the sensation, the feeling, the rush.. just like Arnold Schwarzenegger described it in the movie “Pumping Iron” :”..blood is rushing through your muscles, the muscles get a really tight feeling like your skin is going to explode any minute and it`s really tight like someone is blowing air into it, it feels different, it feels fantastic. ”
The next day was followed by a huge soreness and i heard from my gym instructor that soreness was a great thing, cause that means you stretched to the max your muscle fibers.

At that time i didn`t knew what to eat like proteins, carbs etc. in order to increase your muscle size. I just knew i had to eat a lot. So everything i got my hands on, got directly to my stomach.
I forgot to tell you that i was a skinny guy, and when i say skinny i mean skinny to the bones.(see pictures)
After i tried some workouts and some types of supplements like proteins, aminoacids, vitamins i realized that i was overtraining and i heard about that fact on the internet because i began reading everything about muscles and i absorbed the information like a sponge.

I told you about overtraining because my gym instructor kept me for 2-3 hours in the gym and made me go through all the gym equipment that was there so all the hard work and all the money spent on supplements were for nothing, i just got a little more fat and i was tired all the time.
But i lie when i say i had no real benefits, in time my strength increased considerably and that was a positive factor that made me continue bodybuilding.. (to be continued)

Lady Gaga is hot, nonconformist and has a great body but all that looks are not easy to maintain, and she invests a lot of money and physical effort to stay in that gorgeous Lady Gaga way.

Workout Description

Lady Gaga`s trainer, Harley Pasternak is the writer of “the 5 factor workout”, that Lady Gaga is using in her training routine. The workout consists in barbell dumbbell combination weights,
jogging, jumping rope and a circuit training routine.
Harley Pasternak:

Step 1: Gaga does her 5-Factor workout with a HarleyBar, workout bar created by me. That’s a cool barbell/dumbbell (DB) combination she travels with.

Step 2: Warm-up with a five-minute jog.

Step 3: Do the following three exercises as a circuit. Three times for 25 reps each set – DB back Rows – which train your upper back and posture muscles, DB deadlifts, which target your hamstrings, thighs and butt, and Sides bends, which work your love handles and obliques.

Step 4: Five minutes of skipping rope.

Step 5: Eat healthy! Gaga follows my 5-Factor World Diet plan. She’s really loving the new recipes in my book the 5-Factor World Diet.

Still it looks like lady gaga`s workout is definitely paying off.

Lady Gaga`s Ab Workout

She begins with a basic crunch, but Lady Gaga adds variety to the very basic exercise by moving into a reverse crunch – lifting her knees towards her forehead using her abs.Sometimes Lady Gaga combines the two into a double crunch – lifting both ends of her body towards her center. On a show, Harley Pasternak said :“It’s mainly about eating the right foods, doing the cardio and burning the fat on top of the abs.”

Harley Pasternak`s “5 factor workout” Short Video Resume During A Show
5 factor workout

Lady Gaga`s Diet

Lady Gaga explained to the Daily Telegraph on February 18, “I’m on a very strict healthy pop star diet. I don’t eat bread, just vegetables and salad and fish. Eating like that is much better for me anyway but on Sundays I sometimes eat pasta”.

I hope you enjoyed reading Lady Gaga`s Workout And Diet Plan.

The full range of motion makes it be a great factor because your arm goes from being fully extended to fully curled but the most important factor that makes this exercise to be the best muscle builder for your bicep is the amount of weight you can use in your routine because the heavier the weights you lift the stronger you become and the faster your bicep muscle grows.

Even though this is the best bicep exercise, you still have to use it in conjunction with other bicep exercises for a complete bicep workout.

Spinach:
Spinach and many other green leafy vegetables such as lettuce contain folate, also known as vitamin B9. Although folate deficiency is well known for its effects in causing spinal malformations in newborns, recent studies reveal that folate may have a role in heart disease by reducing circulating levels of homocysteine in the blood. High homocysteine levels increase your risk of heart attacks as well as stroke; therefore, increasing your dietary intake of folate-containing foods may help reduce the risk of CHD (Chronic Heart Disease).
In general, a diet rich in vegetables as well as fruit can significantly reduce hypertension, a major risk factor for CHD.

Salmon:
Salmon and other fish are the foods with probably the most scientific evidence for heart protection. The active ingredient in salmon is the omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids may reduce risk of CHD by several mechanisms including reducing blood pressure, blocking platelet function and clot formation, and preventing plaque formation in artery walls. One study in the Netherlands following men over a 20 year period showed an obvious inverse relationship between fish consumption and CHD.
Omega-3 fatty acids also help to regulate the electrical activity of the heart, thereby reducing the likelihood of sudden cardiac death.

Almonds:
Almonds and other nuts are a rich source of mono and polyunsaturated fats that can not only reduce total cholesterol but also raise your high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, the “good” cholesterol. Almonds also contain phytosterols that are naturally occurring plant steroids that block the intestinal tract from absorbing all types of fats.

Oats:
Oats belong to a larger category of foods referred to as whole grains. Whole grains contain the entire kernel as opposed to refined grains that have been processed to remove the bran and the germ. While this process allows certain grains to last longer on store shelves, it also removes much of the good stuff like B vitamins, vitamin E, fiber, and antioxidants. Oats, in particular, as found in your morning oatmeal, contain a soluble fiber known as beta-glucan that decreases the total cholesterol in your blood as well as your low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. This is important because it is the LDL or “bad” cholesterol that’s responsible for heart attacks. In addition, whole grains have a low glycemic index, which is a measure of how high a food raises your blood sugar level. Foods with low glycemic index have a clear health advantage, particularly in helping to prevent diabetes (a major risk factor for coronary heart disease).

Red wine:
In moderation (4 to 8 ounces/day), red wine is cardioprotective. This effect comes from antioxidants found in red wine, particularly resveratrol. This compound found in grape extracts has several beneficial effects on the heart, including reducing LDL as well as total blood cholesterol.Other polyphenols found in red wine, have been shown to reduce blood clots by inhibiting a component found in blood known as platelets. Similar to the action of aspirin, which is one of the mainstay therapies in heart attack prevention, red wine helps to prevent platelets from clumping together, which is a key event in coronary artery blockage.

Although minerals may be required in small quantities, they are still vitally important to our general health and wellbeing.

1.Calcium
Calcium is needed for so many different functions in the body, from bones, to blood clotting, your muscles etc. People often think of bones as a static piece of the body, where very little change occurs, but that is a totally incorrect perception. Bone is a dynamic part of the body and calcium is constantly flowing into, and out of it.Calcium is needed for the formation and maintenance of bones, the development of teeth and healthy gums. It is necessary for blood clotting, stabilizes many body functions and is thought to assist in preventing bowel cancer. It has a natural calming and tranquilizing effect and is necessary for maintaining a regular heartbeat and the transmission of nerve impulses.
Food sources of calcium
Milk, milk products, beans, nuts, molasses and fruit contain good amounts of calcium. Fish and seafood, as well as green leafy vegetables supply good amounts of calcium.

2.Chloride
Chloride is formed when chlorine gas dissolves in water but is also a dietary mineral needed by the body for optimum health.Chloride in the diet works with potassium and sodium, the two electrolytes, to control the flow of fluid in blood vessels and tissues, as well as regulating acidity in the body, and also forms part of hydrochloric acid in the stomach.A deficiency of chloride is extremely rare and unlikely to occur but a deficiency of chlorine in the body may cause excessive loss of potassium in the urine, weakness and lowered blood pressure.
Food sources of chloride
Chloride is found in table salt as well as kelp, olives, tomatoes, celery etc.

3.Magnesium
Magnesium plays an important role in at least 300 fundamental enzymatic reactions and for that reason is of vital importance in our health.Magnesium helps with formation of bone and teeth and assists the absorption of calcium and potassium. Where calcium stimulates the muscles, magnesium is used to relax the muscles.Together with vitamin B 12, it may prevent calcium oxalate kidney stones. It helps prevent depression, dizziness, muscle twitching, and pre-menstrual syndrome. It can help prevent the calcification of soft tissue and may help prevent cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and certain forms of cancer, and it may reduce cholesterol levels.
Food sources of magnesium
Magnesium is found in dairy products, fish, meat and seafood, as well as in legumes, apples, apricots, avocados, bananas, whole grain cereals, nuts, dark green vegetables, and cocoa, while hard water and mineral water may also supply it in fair quantities.

4.Phosphorus
Phosphorus is present in the body and can be found mainly in the bones and muscles – at a total body content of around 400 – 500 grams. It is very involved with bone and teeth formation as well as most metabolic actions in the body, including kidney functioning, cell growth and the contraction of the heart muscle.Calcium and phosphorus must be taken in balance or a deficiency might be formed. While it assists the body in vitamin use (especially some B group vitamins), it also is involved in converting food to energy.
Food sources of phosphorus
Meat, poultry and fish, as well as eggs, seeds, milk, carbonated soft drinks, broccoli, apples, carrots, asparagus, bran, brewer’s yeast and corn contain a good source of phosphorus.

5.Potassium
Potassium is one of the electrolytes we all require to maintain health. It is needed for growth, building muscles, transmission of nerve impulses, heart activity etc.Potassium, together with sodium – potassium inside the cell and sodium in the fluid surrounding the cell, work together for the nervous system to transmit messages as well as regulating the contraction of muscles.Excessive potassium can be toxic and will affect your heart, but is mainly a problem when you suffer from a problem such as kidney failure.
Food sources of potassium
Potassium is found in fruit, vegetables as well as whole grains, citrus fruit, molasses, fish and unprocessed meats.

6.Sodium
Sodium is required by the body, but most people have a far too high intake of sodium (salt) in their diet.It is an electrolyte in the body and is required in the manufacture of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which protects the body from any infections that may be present in food.Although a low sodium diet should be strived for, it is wise to start reading food labels and to see the sodium level in these foods. People taking lithium for the control of bipolar depression should not be on a sodium restricted diet – but please discuss this with your medical practitioner.
Excessive long-term use of sodium may also cause a loss of calcium from your body.
Food sources of sodium
Sodium is found in table salt, anchovies, bacon etc.

7.Sulfur
Sulfur, an acid-forming, non-metallic element is not treated as an essential mineral, since there are no specific deficiency symptoms. It is the hydrogen sulfate in onions that causes us to weep when cutting or peeling them.It is found in the hair, nails and skin, and as much sulfur as potassium is normally found in the body. Sulfur is used to detoxify the body, assist the immune system and fight the effects of aging, as well as age related illnesses such as arthritis.
Food sources of sulfur
Sulfur is normally found in protein foods, such as eggs, garlic, lettuce, cabbage and Brussels sprouts.
